Calicut University offers various part-time and full-time Ph.D. programmes like M.Phil/Ph.D. in Arts, M.Phil/Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D. in Education. These Calicut University PhD Admission programmes are coming under the following faculties:

Eligibility Criteria

Students who want to take admission in must have a master degree or a professional degree from Calicut University or any other equivalent university which is recognized by UGC or AICTE and secure at least  55% marks aggregate. Canndaite who have an equivalent degree of masters from a foreign educational institution is also eligible to get admission.

If you have an M.Phil. degree from a university which is recognized by UGC or AICTE and scored 55% marks aggregate are also eligible to apply for research programmes in Calicut University.

Applicants who are working for Universities, Institutes, Government, Private Organization nominated, National Laboratories and sponsored as the respective employer and have M.Phil. degree or any post graduation or master degree from a university which is recognized by UGC or AICTE and scored 55% marks aggregate are also eligible to apply for Calicut University PhD Admission.

OBC candidate can get 10% relaxation and SC/ST candidate can get 10% relaxation in marks scored in their post-graduation or masters.

General category candidates have to score minimum 50% in Entrance test of Calicut University PhD Admission programme. While SC/ST candidates get 10% relaxation in their marks and OBC candidates get 5% relaxation in their marks.

Candidates can pay the application and entrance examination fee via e-payment (SBT e-challan/ SBT online/ Friends/ Akshaya e-challan or any other Payment method) to Calicut University Fund.

SC/ST Category: INR 220/-

Submit Application Form to Calicut University

After downloading the application form, Fill all the necessary details in the Application form and attach duly attested e-challan receipt and then send it to Head of the University Teaching Departments before the last date.

Candidate has to include some necessary details with the application form which are given below:

  • Self-attested copies of Certificates and Mark sheets
  • E-challan receipt
  • Community Certificate (only for SC/ST candidates)
  • Envelope of size 23 x 10 cm with self-addressed stamp.

Selection Process

Admission in the Ph.D. programme will be based on the marks obtained in entrance examination which is conducted by Research Departments of Calicut University in December. Score of entrance exam, marks obtained in Personal Interview and qualifying examinations of 12th or 10+2 are combined together to do the selection for Calicut University PhD Admission programme.

Candidates who score at least 50% marks in entrance examination are eligible to apply for admission in Ph.D. programme. Whereas, SC/ST candidates have to score 40% marks and OBC candidates have to obtain 45% marks to get eligible.

Exemption from Entrance Test

There are some category candidates who are exempted from giving entrance examination. It means these candidates do not have to appear or qualify entrance examination which is conducted by Calicut University.

  • Candidates who have M. Phil. Degree.
  • Candidates who are Foreign nationals and otherwise eligible for admission.
  • Candidates who have qualified NET.
  • Aided, Govt. colleges and Affiliated colleges teachers working under the University of Calicut, and teachers with FDP/QIP, etc., fellowships, and University Departments teachers.
  • Candidates who have research fellowships provided by Central or State funding agencies which is approved by Calicut University.
  • Fellows who have selected after the written test and interview or working in a research project which come under the investigation of a research guide of the Calicut University.

Calicut University Ph.D. Exemption from Entrance TestCandidates who are exempted or do not have qualify the entrance examination can apply for Calicut University PhD Admission any time during the academic year.

Candidates who want to appear in entrance exam of two different streams can contact concerned departments to inform that they can make arrangements to conduct the exam accordingly.
